The Ivorian only played once during the final eight games of the 2017/18 season and has not made a Premier League start since his horror show against Brighton and Hove Albion in August.
He has also attracted interest from Arsenal in the past and, with Mourinho still keen to add a central defender, could be deemed dispensable by the club’s hierarchy.
And according to the Mirror‘s John Cross, Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Bailly, who recently followed in the footsteps of Romelu Lukaku by signing with with Jay-Z’s agency Roc Nation.
Mourinho usually never puts a foot wrong when it comes to central defenders but Bailly, the 55-year-old’s first signing as Man United manager, feels like an anomaly in that respect.
The Ivorian has been imperious for United at times but his inconsistency, both in the form of injuries and unnecessary mistakes, has clearly eroded Mourinho’s trust in his ability to deliver on a weekly basis.
You would certainly not be surprised to see Bailly look for a club where he would be guaranteed a starting place if his situation at Old Trafford fails to improve.
