Graeme Souness: Nemanja Matic to blame for Manchester United’s loss to Juventus

Pundit Graeme Souness has hinted that Nemanja Matic was to blamed for Manchester United’s loss to Juventus on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The Serbian started the fixture and lost track of Paulo Dybala who ended up grabbing the only goal of the game.

United fans were displeased with the midfielder’s performance and are frustrated with how his form has declined at a worrying rate.

Souness shares the view that Matic should’ve tracked Dybala’s run into the box and believes he was lucky Juventus didn’t exploit him further.

Jose Mourinho has also upset supporters by insisting to play the former Chelsea man despite Andreas Pereira impressing during pre-season.

According to the Daily Star, Graeme said: “The manager must be tearing his hair out [with Matic]. It’s good movement but not great movement.

“It is very easy to ball-watch and get attracted to the ball. A good central midfielder has his radar on and is aware of everything around him.

“He is ball watching on three occasions. He cost them one goal and it could easily have cost them three goals.”

Pereira has hardly gotten any minutes since the summer friendlies and fans are eager to see more of him.

It’s unfortunate that he wasn’t rewarded for his form with a run in the starting XI but Mourinho clearly trust Nemanja more.

Hopefully Andreas can somehow convince the Portuguese manager to hand him more match-time so he can develop even further.

Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw have both capitalised on rare opportunities off the bench and are now benefitting from a run in the starting XI much to the delight of the supporters.
