David de Gea 7 – Could do nothing about Cristiano Ronaldo’s wonder-strike but made a couple of diving saves to keep Juventus in sight.
Ashley Young 7 – Played with impressive dedication up against Juan Cuadrado and supplied a perfect cross for Manchester United’s second goal. A true captain’s performance.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Perhaps he could have done better in the build-up to Ronaldo’s goal but this was another complete defensive performance. Moved the ball splendidly and held firm for the large part.
Chris Smalling 7 – Once again marshalled the Manchester United defence and ensured they kept a solid line, often stepping up the pitch to bring his defence out when needed.
Luke Shaw 6 – Did not get forward too often but, on the whole, performed well in his task of sticking to Ronaldo out wide.
Nemanja Matic 6 – Started the game with authority, supplying a lovely ball into the box for Alexis Sanchez, only to become somewhat overwhelmed by Paolo Dybala after the break.
Ander Herrera 7 – A classic Ander Herrera big-game performance. Buzzed around the midfield with ferocity and intent for 90 minutes. Without him, this game could have been a different prospect altogether.
Paul Pogba 5 – A disappointing return to Turin for the Frenchman. Stepped up his game in the second half but too often made the wrong decisions in possession.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Faded away in the second half on his first game back in the starting XI but supporters will be encouraged by how his movement and energy allowed United to dominate at the start.
Alexis Sanchez 6 – Appeared to pick up a knock in the first half which knocked him off his stride. Nonetheless linked up well with teammates at times and displayed good movement, albeit without any final product.
Juan Mata 7 – Came on and, within minutes, scored a truly wonderful free-kick to bring United level. An inspired substitution.
