David de Gea 6 – Produced a massive howler for Arsenal’s goal, parrying a soft header over the line, but atoned with three magnificent saves in the second half.
Diogo Dalot 7 – A superb first Premier League start against tough opposition. Arsenal looked to feed the ball in behind him and the teenager held firm throughout.
Eric Bailly 7 – Played with the kind of passion and power that makes supporters love him. A very impressive return to the starting XI.
Chris Smalling 6 – Composed himself relatively well throughout but his positioning for Arsenal’s second and passing from the back was wayward.
Marcos Rojo 6 – For 67 minutes, the Argentine, making his first start of the season, was sensational all over the pitch. And then the crucial mistake came: giving the ball away on the center circle to hand Arsenal a goal.
Nemanja Matic 6 – Once again looked off the pace to start with but, as the game split up, somehow the Serbian regained more control to his game, passing with authority and precision.
Ander Herrera 7 – Superb intensity from the first minute until the last. Won loose balls at crucial times and sought to get his teammates moving forward. He loves big games.
Jesse Lingard 7 – Deservedly claimed his first goal of the season – capitalising on Arsenal’s sleepiness after going ahead – to crown a performance packed with verve. Linked up nicely with Rashford and Martial.
Marcus Rashford 6 – Took up some good positions high up the pitch, often opening up space for others to exploit between the lines of Arsenal’s defence, but too often lacked cutting edge on the ball.
Anthony Martial 7 – Another superb performance from the Frenchman on his 23rd birthday. Scored his eighth goal of the season, slamming home from close range in the first half. Mourinho would have adored the intensity and simplicity with which he played.
