Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms he will have say in January transfers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he will have an ‘input’ when it comes to discussions over targets in the January transfer window.

Jose Mourinho‘s lack of harmony with chairman Ed Woodward with regard to transfers, which peaked in the summer over the issue of a new central defender, proved to be an endless sticking point between the two, and perhaps one of the reasons behind the Portuguese losing his job.

Reports suggest that Woodward, reluctant to spend big in the summer, was not planning on overseeing any arrivals or outgoings next month.

Speaking at his first press conference as Manchester United manager, Solskjaer noted he would have a say in business conducted over the January window – assuming there is any in the first place.

What I love most about this quote is how Solskjaer, in total contrast with his predecessor, seems uninterested in agitating for financial backing from his board, and instead cares more about working with his players to improve them. Who knew managers could do that at United? I swear it was against the rules.

With regard to transfers, any spending in January – unless a miracle presents itself – is very unlikely. Emphasis has to be on finding a director of football under whose vision United can begin to look for players of a particular profile.
