Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly open to joining Manchester United in the summer – report

by Leo Nieboer

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is open to completing a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to sources at ESPN.

The Senegalese central defender emerged on Man United’s radar over the summer following a superb 2017/18 campaign with the Serie A side.

Key figures at United were reportedly willing to launch a January bid to sign Koulibaly, with Napoli’s exit from the Champions League providing an incentive to pursue him now, but Napoli are in no mood to let such an important player leave midway through a season.

But according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, the 27-year-old, despite signing a five-year contract in September, is open to completing a move to Old Trafford over the summer transfer window.

Koulibaly has made his quality known to all top clubs in Europe and deserves a big money move. It is hard to think many defenders in word football better than him at this time.

And United desperately need him. Despite claiming consecutive clean sheets against Newcastle and Reading, defensive frailties continue to exist at the heart of this team. They look vulnerable from every attack. Injecting the power and poise of Koulibaly alongside Victor Lindelof would go a long way to finally having a defensive partnership which inspires confidence.
