Manchester United players flock to praise David de Gea after Tottenham Hotspur heroics

by Leo Nieboer

A number of Manchester United players flocked to hail David de Gea on social media after the Spaniard produced an iconic goalkeeping display against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men produced a tactically watertight, ruthlessly energetic counter-attacking performance in the first half, taking the lead through Marcus Rashford just before half time.

In the second period, with Man United tiring, Tottenham dominated the possession and chances, forcing an incredible eleven saves from De Gea, who never looked like letting anything past him.

And teammates were quick to serenade their keeper on social media after the game.

Those who do not believe De Gea is the best keeper in the world must concede that he is at least the most talked about, the most idolised man between the sticks. The days of Iker Casillas and Manuel Neuer are over. De Gea, in the popular eye, is the new king.

Sometimes the Spaniard – almost always in a big game – produces performances like these: the endless stream of attacks towards his goal, shot after shot after shot, and the symphony of octopus-like saves – a collection of perfectly timed hands and feet – repelling them, as if he were some lime-green Spanish wizard, looking so incredibly untroubled by it all.

And when De Gea takes centre stage, slowly sapping opposition strikers of their confidence and will to live, the whole world certainly takes notice.
