Paris Saint Germain superstar Neymar Jr came off the pitch in tears last night after picking up a metatarsal injury during his side’s Coupe de France win over Strasbourg.
The Brazilian, who remains the world’s most expensive player of all time, has scored 20 goals in just 23 appearances in all competitions this season.
He landed nastily on his right foot – done whilst pointlessly jaunting around on the ball nowhere near Strasbourg’s goal late in the game, so, you know, no sympathy really – and went to the hospital for scans.
And the club has confirmed that early assessments by doctors showed a re-aggravation on Neymar’s right metatarsal – the same foot he fractured last year.

Here is how the injury happened in slow motion, with Neymar clearly suffering a nasty twist of his already problematic right foot.

The statement released by PSG stressed further evaluations would be made over the coming days, declaring that all therapeutic options will be considered – which presumably means there is a possibility of Neymar needing surgery.
That is the extreme view, of course, but the tears Neymar shed last night seemed to suggest he knew, deep down, the injury he sustained would keep him out for some time.
