Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United didn’t show any attacking impetus vs PSG

by Marwan Harraz

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side didn’t show any attacking impetus vs PSG.

The two European giants clashed in the Round of 16 tie at Old Trafford with the French champions winning 2-0.

United weren’t favourites for the fixtures but many believed a respectable result may be on the cards after the absences of Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the case with PSG cruising through the match with relative ease.

Former Juventus star Gianlugi Buffon was hardly troubled as the Red Devils typically busy attackers faltered under the floodlights.

In-game injuries to Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard heavily affected the match as United failed to recover.

Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez were brought onto the field as replacements but both were largely anonymous.

It truly was a reality check for Solskjaer, his players and the board on the difference of quality between the two teams.

The Red Devils worked tirelessly but were simply outclassed as PSG went up a gear in the second half.

Whether Ole needs to bring in new faces or just needs more time with the current squad remains to be seen.

The Norwegian may not even be hired permanently once the summer comes around but perhaps a win in Paris could convince his employers otherwise.
