Alexis Sanchez picked up an injury before coming on against Paris Saint Germain – report

by Leo Nieboer

Alexis Sanchez sustained an injury before coming on against Paris Saint Germain by running into the linesman as he warmed up, according to reports.

The Chilean was sent out to warm up by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Anthony Martial went down with a muscle injury.

His second half performance, along with substitute Juan Mata, was painfully anonymous, as PSG scored twice in seven minutes to kill the tie.

And according to the Mail‘s Chris Wheeler, the 30-year-old is now a doubt for Man United’s meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup next week following a truly bizarre collision with the linesman as he warmed up – something not caught by the cameras.

This strange development would certainly explain the totally absent nature of Sanchez’s performance against the French champions. It was worse than bad; it was a disappearing act.

So perhaps – and you really wouldn’t bet against something like this happening today – this story is a convenient bit of PR, an explanation for what happened on Tuesday.

Should the story be true, however, serious questions need to be asked about why he was allowed to take to the field. I suppose we will never find out the truth.
