Manchester United have reportedly made Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane their top defensive target for the summer.
The Frenchman has publicly denied a desire to leave the Spanish club but reports have continued to grow nonetheless.
Varane is said to be open to a move despite not actively looking to move as he has a growing desire for a challenge.
It’s believed Madrid are planning for a summer overhaul and may consider selling the centre-back to fund moves in other positions.
United have tracked the World Cup winner ever since Jose Mourinho first began his reign at the club and wished to sign a top centre-back.
According to The Independent, the Red Devils’ have made initial enquires over Raphael as he is their ideal centre-back candidate though he would cost over £100m.
It was said that Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly was the club’s top target but the 25 year old quickly emerged as a candidate after it was previously unthought of to lure him away.
Manchester United aren’t expected to part ways with over £100m on one signing as a summer overhaul is currently being planned.
However, a player of Varane’s quality doesn’t become available everyday and so they may be tempted to break the bank for him.
