Manchester United targeting Juventus’ Joao Cancelo: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United are reportedly targeting Juventus star Joao Cancelo in their bid to resolve their right-back woes.

Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot are the club’s current options in the position.

However, it’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to complete a summer overhaul of his squad which could see his options drastically change.

Valencia is expected to depart for free when his contract runs out while Darmian has been practically begging for a move to Italy for several windows now.

Young’s sudden decline has also meant United are in need of another right-back to compete with Dalot until he develops.

According to HITC,Tutto Mercato report that Max Allegri would seriously consider a £35m bid for Cancelo after losing trust in the player in big games.

The Portuguese would be an upgrade on any of the Red Devils’ current options whether at right-back or right-wing.

His versatility would be incredibly useful to Solskjaer and though the right-wing needs some investment itself, it makes sense he would focus on the right-back position first.

Manchester United’s need for top defenders is no secret and so Joao would be the perfect player to purchase if they hope to return to the top of English football.
