Manchester United fans were absolutely furious with the club for allowing Ander Herrera to leave for free, believing one of their best players shouldn’t have been allowed to depart.
In the Portuguese’s first season in charge Herrera was fantastic, playing as a defensive midfielder who not only protected his defence but gave Paul Pogba the platform to perform.
It’s no surprise that was the campaign the former Atletico Bilbao man won personal awards and fans grew to love him.
At a time supporters feeling their squad lacks any passion or leadership, letting go of Ander who embodies that, seems a little strange.
My club extended the contracts of Phil Jones and Ashley Young but decided not to do so for Ander Herrera, wbu

Honestly can’t get over the fact that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have outlasted Ander Herrera at Manchester United.
And he signed years after them..

Herrera announces he's leaving United….Absolute shitshow from the club letting a player who gets it walk out the door for nothing while crap like Jones get 5 year deals

Absolutely gutted… This should not be happening. This is not the way we start our rebuild.. I hope there's a massive boost around the corner because this is gut wrenching! Absolutely loved this guy, his character.. Style of play.. Passion.. Wore the shirt with pride!

That’s it lads, keep paying Alexis £500K a week and let one of our best midfielders leave for free. Great work.

It’s unclear whether Herrera’s departure is down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting against offering him a new deal or the board unwilling to match his wages.
Fans get the feeling that it was the incompetent hierarchy who failed which is in line with reports that claimed the midfielder was unhappy with how late they approached him.
Whatever the case, next season will show whether Ander is a loss to the team or not and one can only hope Scott McTominay steps up big time.
