Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been pictured in Manchester United kit for the first time after completing a £45m move to Old Trafford on Friday.
The right-back, who becomes the club’s second signing of the summer, enjoyed a remarkable 2018/19 campaign with Crystal Palace, during which he made 35 Premier League starts.
Man United announced the transfer after Wan-Bissaka completed a medical at Carrington on Thursday following a breakthrough in negotiations earlier this week.
The 21-year-old was pictured in good spirits as he posed in United’s new kit for the first time.
Wan-Bissaka becomes the club’s most expensive defender of all time, surpassing the £30m fee paid for Luke Shaw in 2014. Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria are the only three players to have commanded a bigger transfer fee to join United.
Wan-Bissaka’s capture, along with that of Daniel James, indicates a novel angle of vision being employed by Solskjaer in the transfer market. These players have been bought with the view towards growing them within a particular framework over the next few years. This is long-term thinking – something the club lacked under Jose Mourinho.
There also remains the question of Romelu Lukaku, who wants a move to Inter Milan and needs to be replaced by a more mobile forward.
