Eric Bailly out for ‘at least six weeks’ following knee injury vs Tottenham Hotspur

by Leo Nieboer

Eric Bailly will miss between six and eight weeks of action for Manchester United after sustaining damage to his meniscus during Thursday’s pre-season win over Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

The defender, seemingly always injured, only managed eight minutes in Shanghai before being forced off with a knee problem as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side won 2-1.

Solskjaer confirmed after that game that Bailly had twisted his knee and the Ivorian had a scan on Friday.

According to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, the scans on Bailly’s knee revealed no ligament damage but the defender will require minor surgery on his meniscus – a commonly injured part of the knee in football – and is set to miss six to eight weeks of action

The earliest Bailly could return, therefore, would be after the September international break, when Man United face Leicester City on September 14.

Meanwhile, United remain in pursuit of Harry Maguire, who they failed to sign last summer and who, weirdly enough, is proving difficult to sign again this time around. Leicester are demanding around £90m for their star defender – a valuation United are reportedly nowhere near at this moment in time.
