Joel Pereira secures season-long loan move to Scotland

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United youngster Joel Pereira has secured a temporary move away from the club as he links up with Hearts for the season.

With David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Lee Grant all ahead of him in the pecking order, it makes sense for the Portuguese prospect to look elsewhere for minutes to develop.

It could be argued Dean Henderson is also ahead of Pereira in terms of the youngsters who could potentially become a United shot-stopper and so there’s a feeling this move is to delay the inevitable.

Nonetheless, the 23 year old should use the young Englishman as an example of how to make the most of a loan spell after his successful stint with Sheffield United.

Henderson helped them get promoted to the Premier League and has moved back on loan again this season to get regular, competitive, top flight minutes.

Although it’s expected De Gea will announce the extension to his contract any day now, should something go awfully wrong, there could still be a chance for Pereira to have a future with the Red Devils.

As good as Romero is, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would want to look to the future and probably pit Henderson and the now Hearts’ man against each other to win the number one spot.
