Roy Keane warns Manchester United over Harry Maguire’s defending

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has aired some of his concerns regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new signing Harry Maguire.

The talented Englishman was signed for a world record fee for a defender this summer as Leicester City finally gave in.

Negotiations over Maguire seemed to take forever but in the end Solskjaer got his man and United fans, for the large part, were satisfied.

Keane however, feels there are still some question marks in regards to the towering centre-back’s defending in light of his former side’s inability to keep a clean-sheet in three of the four matches played so far.

The Red Devils defeated Chelsea convincingly 4-0 but drew 1-1 to Wolves, lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace and then tied 1-1 with 10-man Southampton.

According to the Mirror, Keane said: “I think he has done OK. We’re talking about how good he is on the ball but defensively I still have one or two question marks over him.

“I worry about his pace on the turn. I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace and he wasn’t doing his best covering his other centre-half.

“Listen, he’s 26 years of age now. You’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him.”

It’s fair to say there’s some truth to Keane’s words but not necessarily all of them.

Fans haven’t been too concerned with Maguire’s defending as he’s shown some of his qualities so far but his lack of pace on the turn is a worry.

Solskjaer’s Manchester United play a high line as they attempt to press so opposing teams are always trying to get in behind them.

Maguire can be easily exposed as such unless he works in tandem with his partner Victor Lindelof.
