Manchester United to target Leicester City midfielder James Maddison next summer – report

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United are monitoring Leicester City midfielder James Maddison ahead of next summer’s transfer window, according to reports.

The club came under enormous criticism over the summer for failing to locate replacements for either Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.

Reports suggested that Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff were the club’s primary targets for that area, while Maddison was mentioned, but no additions were made in that area.

According to Manchester Evening News, Maddison fits the profile designated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United will continue to track the midfielder ahead of the 2020 summer transfer window.

Solskjaer has emphasised to United’s board that he only wants players who are fully committed to the Norwegian’s project at Old Trafford.

Moreover, as seen with his first three signings as United boss, the 46-year-old harbours a strong preference towards young British players who he can develop into players with the right mentality to play for the club.

Maddison ticks all of those boxes. He is on the cusp of being an England international and, if we are being brutally honest, would probably walk into this United starting XI as the second-best midfielder at the club behind Paul Pogba.

Much like Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, Maddison needs to be the priority next year.
