Manchester United wasteful in dull performance vs Rochdale

by Marwan Harraz

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be fuming with his Manchester United players for not comfortably beating a stubborn Rochdale side.

The legendary Norwegian watched on frustratingly as his squad drew 1-1 with a League One side and needed penalties to go through to the next round of the League Cup.

Probably more annoying from Solskjaer’s perspective is that his side had enough chances to put the game to bed, even early on.

As organised and well defended Rochdale were, United were equally wasteful and sloppy and almost risked their reputation.

Jose Mourinho often criticised his players for their failure to be clinical and it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Solskjaer do the same.

Big chances are chances one would expect the player to finish off and so that doesn’t include lesser chances or moments of talent that a player would perform singlehandedly.

In truth it’s a theme of Manchester United’s season so far as they’ve had, statistically speaking, enough chances to beat all of their oppositions so far but have failed to do so numerous times.

All in all this kind of stuff typically evens out over the course of a season so Solskjaer will hope this doesn’t remain the case for months on end.
