Manchester United let Emilio Alvarez go after David de Gea’s new deal

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club, not long after renewing David de Gea‘s contract.

The sensational Spaniard appeared close to an exit himself with just a year left to his previous deal.

Juventus and PSG were believed to be ready to pounce as soon as January came around to sign him for free.

However, United didn’t allow that situation to develop and tied De Gea down to a long-term deal.

Alvarez has been at the club since 2016 and is believed to be close to the former Atletico Madrid man but their work relationship has come to an end.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought in his own goalkeeping coach over the summer so it’s no surprise to see Alvarez leaving though it does make fans wonder whether it’s a move that’ll upset De Gea.

Some have argued the world class goalkeeper hasn’t been the same since Alvarez came in and so are looking forward to an upturn in form.

It’s safe to say De Gea hasn’t been at his best for a while now but most put it down to the negotiations in regards to his contract rather than poor coaching.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see whether Solskjaer’s decision pays off or not.
