Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic has revealed how close he got to signing for Manchester United during Jose Mourinho’s era.
The Croatian was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford with the Portuguese boss said to be incredibly keen on the transfer.
It was always rumours however with nothing official coming out until now with Perisic confirming there was interest.
United’s need for attacking reinforcements is still evident even now so it’s no surprise to see Mourinho wanted to sign someone even back then.
Fans criticised the interest as they believed a then close to 30 year old was not the answer to their woes, particularly after the issues with Alexis Sanchez.
Ivan Perisic: “How close was I to going there [#mufc]? Very close. It was an amazing thing for me when Jose called me. It was difficult to say no to him. In fact, I really, really wanted to join him and play for United." #mulive [the athletic]

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United invested in a winger but it came in the form of young prospect Daniel James instead.
The dazzling Welshman has already won over supporters with his work-rate and recent goalscoring form.
It’s likely Solskjaer will attempt to sign another attacker this January and it’s expected the target will be of a similar ilk to James.
In the end United dodged a bullet of sorts by avoiding the signing of Perisic despite Mourinho’s wishes and it’s safe to say his transfer record was patchy himself.
