Manchester United look to Ivan Rakitic for midfield reinforcement

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have reportedly began initial negotiations for Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to improve his thin squad.

The experienced Croatian has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and it seems that may finally happen.

After all, United are desperate to add to an underperforming midfield with the squad overall lacking in depth.

Solskjaer is also a little short on experienced players and so perhaps bring Rakitic in could solve that problem.

The playmaking midfielder is understood to be unhappy with his situation in Spain so a transfer away is not difficult to imagine.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils have ‘opened talks’ with Rakitic in the view of signing him this January with Barcelona wanting at least £34m to get the deal done.

In truth this would not be a smart decision from Solskjaer as he would be spending too much on an ageing player which doesn’t seem worth it.

Manchester United have made that mistake far too often and are better off investing that money elsewhere.

After all, Solskjaer is already struggling to offload another experienced midfielder in the form of Nemanja Matic and he certainly doesn’t need to be stuck with another later on.
