Player ratings: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester United

by Leo Nieboer

Sergio Romero 5 – Could have moved quicker for Chelsea’s goal. Had little to do aside from that.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – Very disciplined performance. Chelsea hardly bothered to attack down his side. Such an accomplished defender.

Victor Lindelof 6 – Had a decent opening 45 minutes but was too slow for Chelsea’s equaliser and came off with an injury.

Harry Maguire 6 – Patrolled the back relatively well but was at fault for Chelsea’s equaliser, missing the header and then failing to get back.

Marcos Rojo 5 – A chaotic display from a chaotic man. Too slow for the equaliser and did not help Williams enough

Brandon Williams 7 – This was a real test for the youngster and he came through it remarkably well. Chelsea targeted his side with overloads and the teenager kept his cool.

Scott McTominay 7 – Indomitable. Every 50/50 seemed to be won by this man, who was imperious in the middle throughout.

Fred 6 – Another promising display. Too slow in possession at times but his radar is clearly very good. Needs more minutes.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Had some decent touches at No.10 but overall failed to make an impression on the game. Looks very rusty.

Daniel James 7 – The Welshman is better than many United fans thought. His running was viscerally quick but also intelligent, as seen through how he won another penalty in the first half.

Marcus Rashford 8 – Remember when people were doubting this guy? Banished the penalty ghosts by rolling one past Willy Caballero and then hit the sweetest free kick you will see from about 35 yards.
