Scott McTominay denies initial injury fears after Partizan display

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Scott McTominay has relieved fans after insisting fears over his fitness are not as serious as it had looked.

The talented Scotsman was substituted after playing his part in his side’s 3-0 defeat of Partizan Belgrade and walked right into the tunnel after.

Supporter’s feared this meant United suffered yet another injury to their squad but in particular their midfield.

Had McTominay been ruled out entirely, that would leave just Fred alone as the only senior midfielder unless Nemanja Matic or Paul Pogba make a miraculous return.

Such is the sensational younger’s growing influence that him missing a match is seen as a minor crisis now.

McTominay and Fred have struck up a decent partnership that seems to be growing every match in the absence of Pogba.

Should they continue improving together, the world-class Frenchman may finally be freed to play in the attacking-midfielder position instead.

Moving Pogba further upfield can only be good for Manchester United as he’ll have a far greater effect on their forward play from there.

It feels, at least currently, a little harsh to drop either one of Fred or McTominay to make way for the World Cup winner and there’s no reason to do so particularly with Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard failing to impress as attacking-midfielders themselves.
