Five January Manchester United transfer targets | Is Erling Haaland the top target?

by Adam Inn

Manchester United’s lack of player options and recent poor transfer spending has been on display in the early goings of this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen injury and form decimate his team limiting the players he can select for match-days. The January transfer window is on the horizon and supporters are hopeful that Ed Woodward will hand Solskjaer a transfer kitty. Man United fans can visit Betway this holiday season to wager on the Red Devils and follow all of their big matches in the Premier League.

If Solskjaer is handed a tidy sum, reinforcements could be on their way to Old Trafford. Could one of these five players be on Solskjaer’s January shopping list?

Erling Haaland

Red Bull Salzburg continue to find stars around the globe thanks to their energy drink-fuelled scouting network. Erling Haaland is the latest gem to land in Austria and clubs are lining up to sign him. Manchester United do have competition for Haaland as Real Madrid are linked with him as well.

Haaland has been with Salzburg since January 2019 and is rated at £27 million, according to Tranfermarkt. He should go for at least double that figure. Haaland has already bagged 15 goals and six assists in 13 Austrian Bundesliga games.

James Rodriguez

This deal may only happen if Manchester United are willing to sell Paul Pogba to Real Madrid. There are reports that Rodriguez and cash could arrive for the Frenchman. Rodriguez has been out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu for much of his career with the Spanish Giants.

A loan move to Bayern Munich did little to re-ignite Real Madrid’s love for him. It also failed to influence Bayern Munich to make the deal permanent.

Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish impressed against Manchester United with a goal in Aston Villa’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. The midfielder was on an upward trajectory at one time, but form and personal issues saw that climb stop.

Following the draw with Aston Villa, pundit Gareth Crooks proclaimed Grealish to be the player to replace Manchester United’s “ordinary” midfielders.

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay may have struggled at Old Trafford, but given more time, the winger would have probably improved and developed into a star. Since moving to Lyon in January 2017, Depay has scored 50 goals in 130 games in all competitions.

Manchester United have a first-refusal clause to buy-back Depay if Lyon decide to sell. Depay’s contract has just 18 months left on it and the player has no desire to extend it. January could be the best time to land the winger.

Dejan Kulusevski

Some Manchester United fans may be wondering, who is Dejan Kulusevski? He is a 19-year-old Swedish midfielder currently playing for Serie A’s Parma. Kulusevski is rated at £40m and both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are tracking him.

The midfielder came through Atalanta’s highly rated academy and is on loan at Parma. A deal could be brokered in January for him; however, recent developments mean Kulusevski may prefer joining Chelsea instead.
