Scott McTominay produced a midfield performance of the highest order as Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad.
The Scot, who dominated proceedings against Tottenham Hotspur (on just one day of training), once again disturbed the opponent with his ruthless tempo across the middle.
Moreover, he was a galvaniser, willing players forward and into position, not letting any player on either team feel comfortable even for one moment.
McTominay’s stats from the game reflect just why he was, once again, so important to sustaining that performance over 90 minutes.
Scott McTominay’s game by numbers vs. Man City:
7 ball recoveries
5 fouls suffered
4/5 aerials won
3/3 tackles won
Huge performance. 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/RO5a7vLhq8

Moreover, it should not be forgotten that the midfielder, as City fans threw coins at and racially abused Fred, basically fronted up to an entire stand encompassing about 10,000 people, which was a truly mad and wonderful sight.
But it should not need my words to tell you why McTominay, more than almost any other player, is so indispensable to Solskjaer, so I’ll let the man himself explain instead:
“He’s almost undroppable at the moment. He’s so professional, he’s not tainted by any superstar or fame, he just wants to become the best footballer he can be.
“That’s the people I want in this club. He’s one of ours & knows what United means.”
