Twitter is lighting up about Angel Gomes’ omission from Manchester United’s matchday squad against AZ Alkmaar.
No Angel Gomes. He’s gone next year ain’t he. @MrStephenHowson

Many expected the 19-year-old to be in the starting XI of the Europa League match, but to everyone’s surprise, he has been left out of the squad completely.
Gomes’ United contract expires in June 2020 and he is yet to sign an extension, leading many to suspect that his omission may indicate that the club are withdrawing their investment in the player’s development because they believe he will leave at the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder was included in the initial matchday squad and trained with the rest of the team, so unless he sustained a last-minute injury, the omission is certainly one that will raise a few eyebrows both among Manchester United fans and the media.
