Paul Scholes wonders where Manchester United would be without Bruno Fernandes

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned whether his former club over-rely on Bruno Fernandes or not following the narrow win over West Brom.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needed to make a statement with his side’s performance vs the relegation candidates as his job was on the line but unfortunately, they scraped by 1-0.

Bruno was central to the victory once again, having dismantled Everton before the international break, and it was his penalty that ended up winning the three points.

Statistics suggest United should’ve cruised past West Brom and that there was a lack of a clinical edge to their game but a lot of fans were unimpressed nonetheless.

Scholes’ statement isn’t too far from some supporters who feel that Solskjaer is still in the Old Trafford hot seat only thanks to Bruno.

Three points are all that ultimately matters but at the same time fans were expecting a larger win given the context.

The context is that West Brom are statistically one of the worst teams in Europe and have struggled massively this season in the league.

Their team doesn’t have any particular, standout quality and Manchester United had a near full-strength starting XI on the pitch.

It should’ve been a rampant win but instead, Solskjaer’s men put in a tired performance and did not necessarily convince anyone that they will have a successful season.

United have had some world class goalkeepers over the years and some entertaining ones too. Take our quiz below to find out how much you know about United’s number 1’s, past and present.
