Juan Mata’s recent statistics show shocking decline

by Red Billy

Manchester United veteran Juan Mata’s performances over the last three seasons show a steep decline when compared with his previous efforts, according to The Daily Star.

The 32-year-old has been used seven times already by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and despite having registered two goals and two assists, The Star argues that the Spaniard’s statistics prove he is not producing the goods.
‘Although he has forced his way back into the side of late, his once impressive goals and assist tally has slipped into mediocrity over the past three campaigns,’ The Star says.
‘After managing 61 goal contributions in his first 156 Premier League appearances for the club – a ratio of 0.37 a game, he has only managed three in the following 28 outings – a ratio of 0.13.’
‘That is an alarming decline for a play who was once one of the top creators in the league, with only three assists and no goals in the league since the start of the 2019/20 season.’
Mata’s stats show an even sharper decline when compared to his time at former club Chelsea.

In fairness to the Spaniard, he has in those past three seasons been played almost exclusively on the right wing, which is not his natural position and arguably a completely unnatural one for a player who suffers from a lack of pace.

It should also be pointed out that despite a quiet performance yesterday, Mata won the penalty that gave United victory. He was also voted Player of the Month as recently as September.
