Fans were asked on The Peoples Person Facebook page ‘Who is United’s best goalkeeper, on current form, right now?’ and over 1,500 votes were cast.
67% of the voters chose Henderson, with only 33% sticking by the troubled Spaniard.
Comments in support of the Englishman included:
‘Dean is very ready. This is why he came back…The boy’s presence alone has made De Gea sit up.’
‘Henderson is just better in general.’
‘Deano should be your number one, no question at all. Actually wants to be at the club as well unlike De Gea on 500k a week for nothing.’
‘Henderson proved himself in Sheffield United last season. He had better statistics than De Gea in all categories playing in an inferior squad than ours. He should be starting.’
Many fans referred to the 23-year-old’s better all-round game and more commanding nature while acknowledging that De Gea might be a better shot-stopper.
‘Henderson is a better played overall, he is better in communication, better with the ball at his feet and also very confident. De Gea has been a good shot stopper but poor at communication and poor with distribution. Hence Henderson is better all day long.’
‘To me, as a goalkeeper, DDG was never the most commanding but was always a great shot stopper. Deano seems to be a lot more commanding, which means his defence is always in order, making his job easier, and still pulls off blinders when called upon.’
‘Have to admit Dean brings a new energy … He commands his defence, has more accurate passes, longer kicks … he is someone aggressive, yells and shouts… He’s more modern than old school De Gea.’
‘De Gea can pull world class saves out once in a while but in general his performances (mistakes included) have been 5 or 6 out of 10 for over 2 years now. Henderson may not be as flashy with his shot stopping but he is going to give a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 every week…That’s just way better for us with our sketchy CBs.’
The Spaniard has recovered from the knock that led to him being substituted at half-time on Sunday and it remains to be seen who Solskjaer will pick between the sticks for tonight’s crucial Champions League game against PSG.
