Facundo Pellistri scores wonder goal for Under-23s

by Red Billy

Manchester United’s teenage sensation Facu Pellistri has opened his account for the club in grand style with a fantastic goal for the Under 23 side as they cruised to a 3-1 win over Southampton at Leigh Sports Village last night.

The 18-year-old winger was a deadline day signing from Uruguayan side Peñarol and was immediately registered in the senior squad, but is yet to make his first team debut.

But last night’s performance for the reserves was his best so far, capped with the wonder goal that will offer encouragement to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he is settling well in his new country.

With Neil Wood’s men 1-0 up at half-time following an Anthony Elanga effort in the 34th minute, Pellistri combined brilliantly with Shola Shoretire within 30 seconds of the restart and ran the length of the pitch before coolly slotting the ball home with his right foot.

Southampton pulled one back shortly after but United ran out 3-1 winners when Arnau Puigmal finished off the game with a 94th minute shot, after having his initial attempt saved by Saints’ keeper Latham.

After the game Pellistri tweeted ‘Really happy for my first goal for United and for the team’s victory. Come on you Reds!’

The Under 23’s now lie 6th in the Premier League 2 in their first season since returning from relegation. Just three points separate the top seven sides in what is shaping up to be an exciting season at Under-23 level.

Edinson Cavani has made quite an impact since his deadline day arrival at Old Trafford, but how much do you know about our other South American players, past and present? Take our quiz below to find out!
