Brandon Williams has posted a reminder on Instagram of what he can do for Manchester United as he celebrates his millionth follower on the social media platform.
Williams has become something of the forgotten man of the Manchester United squad this season following Alex Telles’ arrival from FC Porto.
Having played 36 matches for the Red Devils last term and firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite, this season the 20-year-old has started just two Carabao Cup games and made one substitute appearance in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Including an outing for the Under 23’s, the Crumpsall-born defender has played just 300 minutes of football this season – the equivalent of just over three games.
The Instagram post shows a ten-year-old looking Williams signing for United followed by a montage of some of his best moments for the first team in what serves as a bold reminder of both his loyalty and his talent.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reasons for sidelining Williams so far this season are unclear, although they could be related to a controversial incident where a 15-year-old girl posted a video on Tik Tok showing that he had been sending her messages, something that Williams has denied.
Although Telles’ arrival has made competition for the left-back berth tougher, Diogo Dalot’s departure on loan to AC Milan means that Williams could be rotated with Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his more natural right back role, but this has not happened so far.
‘It’s not just 1 million followers, it’s 1 million of my OWN community supporting me, born and bred Manchester boy just living his dream,’ Williams posted.
‘This is just the beginning, thank you from the bottom of my heart.’
