Harry Maguire puts in superb performance vs Man City

by Red Billy

The Manchester Derby ended 0-0 this evening and it was, as the scoreline suggests, a game where the defences dominated.

United looked more solid at the back than they have done for a long time, with good performances from Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw along with captain Harry Maguire.

Maguire was arguably one of the best players on the pitch and was a colossus at the heart of the Red Devils’ defence.

The statistics bear out the importance of the Englishman’s performance. Maguire won 100% of his tackles and 100% of his aerial duels, made five ball recoveries, three interceptions – two of them crucial, made three blocks and two clearances.

It was fantastic to see Maguire regain some form after a poor start to the season and fans on social media were quick to give him praise.

‘For all the dragging of Maguire, he made some crucial interceptions today,’ said one fan.

Many fans called for him to be named Man of the Match.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted to be vindicated for sticking by his captain after a barrage of criticism from fans and the media. Maguire has made some high profile mistakes, including a miscommunication with David de Gea that gifted RB Leipzig their third goal on Tuesday and saw United crash out of the Champions League.
