How Marcus Rashford has set the bar higher in his recent performances

by Red Billy

Marcus Rashford’s performance against Sheffield United last night was exceptional and provided the catalyst for yet another Manchester United comeback away from home.

The England international’s contribution was not limited to the two excellent goals he scored and statistics published by @StatmanDave demonstrate his all-round contribution for his team.

Rashford achieved 90% pass accuracy, took five shots – three of which were on target, made four successful take-ons, four ball recoveries and won three fouls.

In fact, other statistics published by Opta show that Rashford has blossomed since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as United manager two years ago tomorrow.

In that time, Rashford has scored 42 goals for United, more than any other United player has scored under one manager since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Rashford’s tally is particularly impressive given that he has achieved the total in a period when the Red Devils have been erratic and inconsistent.

The 23-year-old himself has also had to learn to iron inconsistency out of his own game and it is frightening to imagine what he can achieve if he is able to sustain his top form more continually as he moves into the prime years of his career.

Whilst he may not quite have the class to win the Ballon d’Or – although anything is possible – he most certainly has the quality to become one of United’s greatest forwards of all time if that consistency can be maintained.

Edinson Cavani has made quite an impact since his deadline day arrival at Old Trafford, but how much do you know about our other South American players, past and present? Take our quiz below to find out!
