Four clubs now competing to take Daniel James on loan

by Red Billy

It would seem that Manchester United’s Daniel James is in great demand at the moment.

It had already been reported that Leeds United and Brighton were interested in taking the flying Welshman on loan in January as he has found playing time at Old Trafford limited this season.

James has been long coveted by the Elland Road team, for whom he nearly signed in 2019 before United snapped him up from Swansea at the last minute. Brighton’s boss Graham Potter was his Swansea manager the season before and would like to be reunited with him.

But according to The Daily Star, two more clubs have joined the race to borrow the 23-year-old’s services.

West Bromwich Albion’s newly appointed manager Sam Allardyce is also keen as he tries to steer the side clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

The outlet claims that ‘Allardyce has made an inquiry regarding James’ availability in the January transfer window.’

The other club in the hunting pack, according to the same outlet, is Burnley.

Until recently it seemed likely that James would be granted playing time away from Old Trafford to kick start his faltering career. He was hauled off at half time in United’s opening match of the season against Crystal Palace and had not started a single match since 24th October.

However, James’ surprise inclusion in the side that thumped Leeds United 6-2 last Sunday, which he celebrated with a goal, and again in the starting eleven against Leicester City yesterday suggest that he could be in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans after all.
