Manchester United won a pulsating encounter with Aston Villa 2-1 at Old Trafford this evening. Here are our player ratings for the game:
(A score of 6 is around average.)
David de Gea 8 – Some excellent saves from De Gea and no errors for once.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – A mixed performance from the right-back. Switched off badly in the second half allowing Grealish to get free and set up Villa’s equaliser. But got a good assist for United’s first goal and made an excellent last-ditch tackle toward the end of the game.
Eric Bailly 9 – Immense performance at the back. His injury time block was an absolutely classic Bailly moment. Let’s hope he stays fit, as he’s a monster on this form.
Harry Maguire 6 – Was beaten in the air a few times and caught ball-watching on a couple of occasions, but not too bad overall.
Luke Shaw 8 – Another excellent performance from Luke who seems to be rising to the challenge of having Alex Telles pushing for his place.
Scott McTominay 5 – A disappointing performance from Scott, who was rightly subbed. Some very sloppy passing and did not support the back four well enough. Matic was a huge upgrade when he came on.
Fred 7 – A typical Fred performance, full of energy, some dodgy passing but some incredible defending. He really is reinventing himself as a good holding midfielder.
Paul Pogba 8 – Started slowly but was back to his sublime best in the second half.
Bruno Fernandes 9 – Brilliant Bruno again. Works so hard and is so creative. The complete footballer?
Marcus Rashford 7 – Some excellent runs but not as clinical as he should have been.
Anthony Martial 7 – Played well in the first half and got his goal, but faded a little in the second.
Nemanja Matic 8 – Steadied the ship brilliantly
Dan James 6 – Did little.
Axel Tuanzebe 7 – Did some good work in those two minutes.
Edinson Cavani has made quite an impact since his deadline day arrival at Old Trafford, but how much do you know about our other South American players, past and present? Take our quiz below to find out!
