Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Donny van de Beek must ‘kick on’

by Red Billy

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has once again responded to questions about Donny van de Beek’s lack of game time at Manchester United.

The manager was asked at the pre-match press conference ahead of today’s FA Cup clash with Watford how he responded to Ronald de Boer’s comments that his compatriot should ask to leave the club if he wants to play for Holland in the forthcoming Euros.

‘I’ve answered this question so many times, and there’s so many examples of players needing a little bit of time, quality players, we have examples ourselves, other clubs have examples. Sometimes it takes time,’ Solskjaer said.

‘You don’t expect people who care for him to be quiet at times when they want the best for him.

‘Donny is going to play tomorrow. There’s another chance for him and yes I spoke to him and reiterated how much we rate him.

‘But he’ll play tomorrow and that’s a good chance again to kick on.’

It is of course true that some players take longer to settle at a new club than others but what many fans have said on social media is that Van de Beek has played well enough when given the opportunity.

It is just that he is not being given enough opportunities.

‘I’m still baffled by his lack of inclusion. Due to the attributes of our players in midfield, we struggle with ball retention, yet we have Donny available who’s great at it. We need Donny and can use him in so many ways,’ one analyst commented on social media.
