Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof shut out Liverpool in style

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United largely have their defence to thank for the result vs Liverpool as they performed admirably to keep their opponents at an arm’s length.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof partnered each other rather controversially but it was a decision that ended up being justified.

The pair were at their best and provided the perfect platform for their attacking teammates to win the crucial fixture.

Unfortunately, the front four largely let United down and that’s why the score remained at 0-0 despite both teams attempting to win.

Maguire and Lindelof aren’t necessarily the team’s best centre-back pairing but their performance suggests there may be more to come from them.

In fairness, the duo were protected heavily by the whole team in general but particularly by the attentive pair of Fred and Scott McTominay.

If Maguire and Lindelof want to prove they are best together, they must recreate a similar performance during a match where the midfield are more focussed on attacking their opponents.

It was already a massive vote of confidence from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to throw the Swedish defender into the line-up given how well the tall Englishman and Eric Bailly were performing recently.

It will now be interesting to see who the legendary Norwegian selects more often moving forward as the pressures of the season grow greater.

Manchester United have fielded some of the worlds greatest centre backs over the years, but how much do you know about them? Take our quiz below to find out!
