Manchester United hammered 10-man, and then 9-man, Southampton an incredible 9-0 this evening in the Premier League. Here are our player ratings for the game:
(A score of 6 is around average.)
David de Gea 7 – Pulled off a great save in the first half, otherwise didn’t have much to do. Was not at fault for the disallowed goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – A goal and a trademark spider-tackle at the other end, the right back is back to his best.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Played an excellent long pass in the buildup to the first goal and had a generally steady game.
Harry Maguire 5 – Maybe being picky, but even in a comfortable win like this he managed to get booked, let a goal through his legs (which was fortunately disallowed) and generally look like a division two player. Very good at pointing, though.
Luke Shaw 8 – World class performance in the first half, hope the substitution was not due to injury as he has become an important part of the team this season.
Scott McTominay 8 – A superb performance capped with an excellent goal.
Fred 8 – A typically energetic performance and also adapted well to life as a left back in the second half.
Mason Greenwood 8 – Two assists and a good performance from Greenwood.
Bruno Fernandes 8 – Going through a quiet patch at the moment but still influential and dangerous with everything he does. Assist and of course, a trademark penalty despite not being at his very best.
Marcus Rashford 8 – Decent stint from Rashford and a well-taken goal.
Edinson Cavani 8 – Great performance including a good goal. Hopefully he is not injured after that bad knock that saw him subbed at half time.
Anthony Martial 9 – Best performance in a long time. Took his goal well, was unlucky not to get a second with the dink past the keeper that grazed the post, won the penalty and generally worked hard to make an impact.
Donny van de Beek 7 – Showed some nice touches.
Dan James 7 – Even the whippet managed a goal. Awesome.
