Manchester United fans left furious after latest embarrassing season ticket fiasco

by Derick Kinoti

Manchester United supporters have been left seething after a club IT glitch caused them to be asked to provide evidence of their attendance at matches.

Season ticket holders that have been affected received official communication from the club, where they were asked to provide a description of what they wore, including photographic ID.

The Daily Mail reports, “Under stricter rules introduced for the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, United fans must have their ticket scanned for at least 10 of the 19 games at Old Trafford, either by attending personally or passing on to another member, or risk being banned from renewing next season.”

“The club sent out an update to all season-ticket holders last month, which confirmed whether or not their ticket had been scanned for the three league games so far.”

“Several supporters’ tickets, which are all digital following a rollout from the club, did not scan for matches against either Brighton, Arsenal or Liverpool – despite them insisting they were at the game themselves.”

Some fans have been informed their attendance for the three home games will not count towards the 10-match rule hence the club’s embarrassing request for photographic evidence.

As per The Mail, the Manchester United Supporters Trust are aware of the issue and are working with the club towards a resolution.

This latest move will only serve to fuel further distaste for the Glazers by the United fanbase.

In recent months there have been protests, demonstrations and boycotts against their ownership of the club.

This handling of season-ticket holders is a far cry from how United sorted out ticketing issues around the Chelsea game.

The club having already distributed their original allocation of 2,994 tickets, saw this number reduced to 1500. In response, fans who had their tickets cancelled were either offered a full refund or a guaranteed seat for one of the next four away games.

Hopefully, the issue is sorted out and normalcy is restored.
