Louis van Gaal’s wife reveals the ex-Man United boss was “ashamed” of his wages

Louis van Gaal’s wife, Truus, has said that the Dutch coach was almost ashamed of the wages he was earning during his tenure as Manchester United boss.

Truss revealed Van Gaal’s reaction to being appointed by Ed Woodward as the top man at Old Trafford.

The current Netherlands manager was brought in to replace David Moyes and spent two years in charge at United before he was sacked after winning the FA Cup.

At the time, the Red Devils spent big in the way of luring Van Gaal and providing the necessary funds to help him shape the squad in his image.

It was therefore disappointing when his era came to an end.

Truss told Nouveau via SportWitness that her husband invited Woodward to their house in Noordwijk, where he was offered the job by the former club chief.

Truss relayed Van Gaal’s joy at securing the United job, and when she asked how much they would earn, her husband ridiculously remarked that he didn’t know and it was not discussed.

“A few days later, Woodward called again, Louis joked: ‘My wife wants to know what I will earn, hahaha. And then he doesn’t negotiate. He’s just almost ashamed of the amount he’s getting.”

With the Netherlands playing against Argentina tonight, Van Gaal responded to one of his former United players. Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria accused the 71-year-old of being the worst manager he has played under due to his constant habit of highlighting his mistakes even when he played superbly.

Van Gaal responded in classic fashion and said, “Di Maria called me the worst manager he has ever had? He’s one of the few players with this opinion. I’m really sorry about this and I find it sad he said this.”

“Memphis had to deal with it too at Manchester United, and now we kiss each other on the mouth.”

With luck, Van Gaal will be able to steer his players towards a victory against Argentina on his side’s way to the semi-finals.
