Marcus Rashford set to bypass David de Gea and become Man United’s highest earner in new bumper deal

Manchester United are hard at work extending the contracts of some of their stars, whose deals expire at the end of the season.

Some of these stars include David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Fred.

For most of these players, the club will trigger the one-year extension clauses on their contracts to avoid a situation where they walk away for nothing at the end of the season.

Yesterday, it emerged that Erik ten Hag is not especially keen on triggering this clause on De Gea’s contract with the Dutch boss open to a new number one coming in during the summer.

A player who could be set for a bumper deal sooner rather than later is Rashford.

‘A few days ago, Ten Hag confirmed that the club would exercise its option to keep Rashford at Old Trafford for one more year while they look to give him a new deal.

This came after Paris Saint Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that the French giants are admirers of Rashford and will explore a transfer for him when the summer window opens.

The Daily Star indicates, “Marcus Rashford will become the highest earner at Manchester United – if he agrees to stay long term. Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain are stepping up their interest in Rashford as doubts over his future grow.”

“The homegrown United star, 25, has refused to sign a new £300,000-a-week contract on the table at Old Trafford. Now the Reds hierarchy are preparing to increase that offer to a whopping £400,000 a week.”

“That basic salary would automatically rocket Rashford to the top of the club’s wage bill.”

On £400,000 a week, Rashford would bypass De Gea who is on £25,000 less.

United’s mega contract offer for Rashford comes on the back of Ten Hag’s eagerness to keep the Englishman on a long-term basis and have him as the face of his United rebuild.
