Enzo Fernandez: Chelsea and Benfica agree deal for Man United target with announcement “imminent”

by Derick Kinoti

Manchester United target Enzo Fernandez may have played his last game for Benfica, as a move to Chelsea edges closer.

During the World Cup, the Argentine was linked with a move to United after a string of impressive performances for the Albiceleste.

Fernandez himself was said to retain a strong interest in moving to Old Trafford.

However, it’s Chelsea that have moved to pole position for the 21-year-old.

Cm reports that there’s a broad agreement in place between Benfica and Chelsea for the transfer of Fernandez to Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder himself has informed Roger Schmidt of his intention to move to Chelsa this month.

Cm relays, “Rui Costa, president of Benfica, and businessman Jorge Mendes met this Tuesday to settle details regarding the departure of Enzo Fernández to Chelsea.”

“The meeting lasted until the end of the day, so it is to be admitted that in the next few hours the official announcement of the transfer of the 21-year-old Argentine midfielder will appear.”

“A deal that will be done for an amount of around 120 million euros, with 30 million euros reverting to River Plate, which at the time of the player’s sale, last summer, was in possession of 25 per cent of the transfer value of the best young player of World Cup.”

Benfica will therefore get around €90m for Fernandez, just six months after they paid €10m to pry him from River Plate’s hands.

United’s cash problems in January meant that they could not compete with Chelsea and do a deal for Fernandez.

With the midfielder now Chelsea-bound, the Red Devils will have to shift their attention elsewhere.
