Manchester United have beaten Birkirkara FC 10-0 in a friendly out in Malta in front of a record attendance of 1053.
Norwegian international Vilde Boe Risa opened the scoring in the eighth minute as United overcame a deep block to take the lead. Galton on the byline pulled it back to Boe Risa who was waiting to tap it in from six yards out.
After two quick goals from Lionesses hero Alessia Russo, Lucia Garcia scored a wonderful goal from outside of the box to make it four as her rocket of a strike found the top corner.
For the majority of United’s goals in fact, they were sublime finishes, putting the ball out of reach for the keeper. Jade Moore’s central strike from outside the box found the top corner and Martha Thomas’s goal which finished things off for the Reds was also a brilliant strike from outside the area.
It was a chance for United to showcase the younger talent within the squad as well with Grace Clinton getting a start (and a goal) and Keira Barry getting some more minutes in after making an appearance in the Conti Cup late last year.
Jess Simpson returned from injury to get a good half an hour in her legs as well.
However, the biggest news for United fans is the return of Aoife Mannion.
Mannion was a key part of Marc Skinner’s side at the start of last season putting in some solid performances in the league from the day she arrived at the club.
Unfortunately, she suffered an ACL injury in the second half of the 21/22 season which has seen her sidelined ever since.
She has been back in training for a few weeks now and Skinner was hopeful that she’d return to action after Christmas.
Sure enough, she started the game in Malta and put in a solid first half performance, helping her team to victory.
Manchester United will return home from a successful winter training camp ready to face Liverpool in the league next weekend on January 15th.
