Manchester United Women linked with Estelle Cascarino and Lisa Naalsund

by Zoe Hodges

Manchester United are close to signing Estelle Cascarino, according to reports.

It was first reported yesterday that United are watching the French international closely and are looking into signing her as a midfielder according to Culture PSG.

The 25-year old is currently playing for PSG as a defender but started out as a midfielder.

Cascarino has made 17 appearances for PSG since her arrival in 2021 and is under contract until 2024.

The report states that she is on her way out and Manchester United are favourites to sign her.

Also on United’s radar is Norwegian international Lisa Naalsund.

Rumours have been building rapidly that she will sign for the Reds but United’s plans suffered a blow yesterday when the player herself told Norwegian press that she had reservations about signing for them.

“There is quite tough competition in that club, so if you get there you risk sitting on the bench for 6 months. Then you won’t be match-ready for the World Cup,” she told TV2.

United are thought to be offering £160k for the midfielder but there is no guarantee she would play.

Her Norwegian teammate Vilde Boe Risa has spoken to media about her frustrations over game time in the past, something which has probably influenced Naalsund.

With the departure of Lucy Staniforth, it seems highly likely that the Reds will look to fill the gap in midfield with one of the above players before the transfer window closes.

It is the first transfer window that the new director of women’s football, Polly Bancroft has been involved in, so it will be interesting to see what she can do.
