Inter Milan banking on Manchester United and Chelsea to move for Denzel Dumfries

After the summer splurge, the only piece of business Manchester United were targeting in the January transfer window was for a back-up right back.

The issue was flagged by Erik ten Hag, who was concerned by the workload being put on Diogo Dalot while Aaron Wan-Bissaka was deemed not good enough.

But the scenario changed after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the club focussing its energy and resources into finding a striker.

AWB’s resurgence

Post the World Cup, Wan-Bissaka has got his chance to impress and he has taken them with both hands, impressing with his all-round play in the Manchester derby.

But the club are still hopeful of bringing in a right-back and one name that has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford has been Denzel Dumfries.

His attacking style of play coupled with his nationality has meant stories have refused to go away.

The latest report comes from Tuttomercatoweb, who say that Inter Milan are looking to offload the full-back in order to balance their books.

“The Dutch fullback is back from a good World Cup and Inter – with Skriniar ever closer to leaving on a free transfer – is evaluating the possibility of selling the former PSV should a reasonable offer arrive,” the report says.

They feel Dumfries is the player whose sale can bring in the most cash and they are willing to sanction a sale as early as January if the right offer is presented to them.

The starting price Inter will ask for is €40million. Initially, the Nerazzurri thought they would have a bidding war between three European giants.

Inter think Chelsea & United will move for Dumfries

Bayern Munich have since indicated their unwillingness to match that asking price leaving United and Chelsea as the most likely to come in for the Dutch international.

“There has been some contact with Chelsea , a club that hasn’t taken any official steps so far.

“Instead, Manchester United has deepened the discussion , but at the moment even the red devils have not made an official proposal,” the report further added.

Considering Wan-Bissaka’s recent resurgence, Ten Hag will clearly be thinking of utilising funds in other key areas like central defence and attack.
