Manchester United set to have further meetings with Facundo Pellistri’s agent

by Ayantan Chowdhury

Squad depth is of vital importance with Manchester United being the only team in the Premier League to be competing on all four fronts this season.

Erik ten Hag knows the importance of the January transfer window and has so far brought in Jack Butland as backup goalkeeper and Wout Weghorst as replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Quite a few academy stars and fringe members of the first-team squad are looking for more minutes and are willing to go out on loan to achieve their aim.

Pellistri’s dilemma

One such member of the first team who has not played as much is Facundo Pellistri. The Uruguayan made his much-awaited debut for the Red Devils in their Carabao Cup quarterfinal clash against Charlton Athletic.

The Dutch manager complimented the youngster and even mentioned that he sees a bright future for him at the club.

The 21-year-old has had to be patient for his chance and now after starring for Uruguay at the World Cup, it is natural for the former Penarol star to be wanting to play more regularly.

It has been already reported by The Peoples Person that a number of clubs have expressed their wish to take him on loan with a few clubs even wanting to include a buy clause in his loan contract.

The winger’s agent was recently involved in two meetings with club officials and he tried to get his client a move where he would get regular minutes.

With Anthony Elanga also generating a lot of loan interest, Ten Hag cannot afford to send both youngsters out on loan especially with Jadon Sancho yet to return to competitive action.

Meeting to sort out Pellistri’s future

Ten Hag is said to want to keep the Uruguay international around till the end of the season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there are further meetings planned between the club and Pellistri’s agent in a bid to find the best possible solution.

“Manchester United have scheduled new round of talks with Facundo Pellistri’s agent to discuss about possible loan move in January.

“Pellistri, waiting for club and ten Hag’s decision as many clubs have asked for loan deal including Valencia, Bologna and Flamengo,” Romano said.
