West Ham express interest in January loan deal for Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire

by Derick Kinoti

West Ham United are keen on temporarily signing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire this January.

Maguire lost his place in the team after Erik ten Hag’s arrival at Old Trafford and has struggled to reclaim a starting berth.

Ten Hag has shown a clear preference for Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as the centre-back partnership.

Recently, Maguire fell further down the pecking order with Ten Hag’s repeated selection of Luke Shaw as the left-sided centre-back even when Maguire has been available.

Shaw has been excellent in his makeshift role and earned himself plaudits for slotting in seamlessly next to Raphael Varane.

Maguire’s decent performances at the World Cup seem to have done little to change Ten Hag’s thinking regarding Maguire’s role in his side.

Earlier this month, a report suggested that Aston Villa were keen on Maguire, with the player and his agent also spotted in a hotel near Villa’s training ground.

Maguire’s camp however moved hastily to refute these rumours.

According to The Mirror, an Old Trafford exit for Maguire is firmly on the cards not only this month but also in the summer.

“West Ham are considering a move to sign Harry Maguire on loan from Manchester United.”

“Last season’s Europa League semi-finalists are weighing up their options in central defence with Wolves targeting one of their existing centre-backs, Craig Dawson.”

“United are understood to be ready to sell Maguire in the summer, despite the fact that they will have to accept a considerable loss on him.”

United forked out £80m to lure the 29-year-old from Leicester City. He has however failed to live up to the price tag. Needless to say, the club will not be getting anywhere near that amount when they eventually part ways with the defender.
