Dwight Yorke was confident that Marcus Rashford would find elite form

by Seth Dooley

Dwight Yorke claims that he recognised Marcus Rashford’s talent early on and knew he would come back into form at Manchester United.

Yorke sits firmly in United’s history book for his contribution during the Treble Winning season.

The former Trinidad and Tobago international scored 65 goals across four seasons at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Marriott Bonvoy, United’s official hotel loyalty partner, Yorke stated that he was confident Rashford would emerge into an elite forward:

“I knew all along that he [Rashford] was the best player at United. I watched him close up on my course at the pro-license.

“I went there and saw a kind of talent I hadn’t seen for some time,”

Rashford struggled with form last season under Ralf Rangnick.

The Englishman only managed to find the net five times after having forgone preseason and postponed surgery to partake in the European Championships.

Since Erik ten Hag took over the helm, however, Rashford is currently playing to an elite level. He has scored 16 times already this season across all competitions.

“Yes, he went through a period of time that was difficult for him and people started writing him off, but you listen to my interviews; I said he was easily the best but for some reason previous managers couldn’t get the best out of him.

“I think that was such a waste of time.

“I’m really happy that he’s getting the rewards now, but is it a surprise to me? No. Is it a surprise to other people? Maybe, yeah.

“But I know football too well and I know when I see someone close up what a special player he is.”

Contract renewal talks between United and Rashford are currently ongoing.
