Fabrizio Romano provides a crucial update on Man United’s takeover amidst summer transfer plans

The current Mancheter United hierarchy is hopeful of selling the club and handing it over before the summer.

This would allow the new owners to come in and plan adequately for the summer transfer window as well as handle contract extensions.

It has been repeatedly indicated that the Glazers will start accepting bids for United in mid-February.

Jim Ratcliffe, through a spokesperson recently declared his intention to buy the club he has supported since he was a boy.

The Ineos billionaire confirmed he will be in the running to bid for United with interest from elsewhere also expected.

It’s understood that the 71-year-old petrochemical mogul held talks with the Glazer family hours before he made his public announcement.

United also opened their “data room” to potential bidders – an exercise that would allow them to access vital information as potential bidders gear up to express their interest to the Raine Group.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the pressure is on as the Glazers look to exit quickly to avoid picking up the tab for United’s summer spending.

Romano reported earlier this month that the current board members have promised Erik ten Hag plenty of funds in the summer to bolster his squad.

It’s however unclear how this promise will be kept if there is a change of guard at Old Trafford.

Romano told GiveMeSport, “It’s really important that all the people on the board and the staff hope that everything can be completed before the summer.”

“This is in order to prepare for the summer transfer window and to maybe help with the contract extensions.”
